Why you should replace your air filter this winter

We encourage preventative maintenance on your HVAC system frequently, but this doesn’t simply mean yearly tune-ups – it also refers to looking at your air filters. It’s a quick way to help keep your system working smoothly and increase your indoor air quality, and you can easily do it on your own! Today is the best time to check your filter, as the cooler weather comes to a conclusion and the warmer weather is on the horizon. There are several benefits to changing out your air filter, such as:

Increasing the life and efficiency of your system
A surefire way to cause a system breakdown is a dirty air filter. Additional dirt that accumulates on your filter can influence your whole system to work harder than it should to keep your home cool. Not only will it impact the performance of your system, but it can escalate your utility bills and end with an overheated system.

Increasing indoor air quality
The purpose of an air filter is that it grabs contaminants through your air system before it reaches your house. After the filter has been in for a while, the less effective it is in trapping things like dust and mold that can impact the health and comfort of your home, especially if someone in your house suffers from allergies or asthma. With increased temperatures near, pollen and mold are especially expected to be hanging around and you certainly don’t like the idea of it moving in your home. A quality, clean air filter will help your household breathe easy and remain healthy throughout allergy season.

Check your system or ask your HVAC technician for guidance on how frequently you should be putting in a replacement filter. For many filters through Ambient Air, we recommend an annual change with the highest MERV filter available. Not sure if it’s the ideal time to exchange your air filter?
